STOKE Space is building Nova, a fully reusable launch vehicle designed for daily flight operations. The company is tackling core challenges in space transportation by radically reducing launch costs, increasing flight cadence, and improving reliability to enable a scalable space economy.
As a core member of the GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) team, you will own all aspects of launch vehicle and spacecraft dynamics and control—from launch into orbit, maneuvering through orbit, and reentry to precise landing. You will develop and own GNC algorithms and trajectory designs from early architecture definition through rigorous qualification testing and flight operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing software capabilities for vehicle guidance, attitude control, engine control, and state estimation algorithms
- Creating and validating vehicle and environment models to simulate GNC algorithm performance and robustness
- Ensuring system quality and performance through rigorous testing
- Conducting Monte Carlo analysis of nominal and failure cases to evaluate vehicle performance and flight safety
- Documenting GNC algorithm and plant model verification and validation for regulatory approval and customer mission assurance
- Overseeing new customer trajectory designs and mission capabilities from conception through flight
You will work closely with the vehicle hardware design team to develop vehicle control devices and establish system-level interfaces. The role requires the ability to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn continuously in a small, agile team environment.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or similar discipline, exceptional command of feedback control system design fundamentals, familiarity with orbital mechanics and trajectory design, experience in GNC algorithm design and validation, experience with physical systems simulation and modeling, proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, and excellent communication skills.
