OQC is a quantum computing company that has recently closed a £260 million Series C funding round—the largest ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe. You will lead the global Facilities function, creating safe, effective, and resilient environments that support current operations and enable international expansion.
You will own OQC's global office and manufacturing facilities and estate strategy across the UK, Spain, and satellite locations including Japan, Singapore, and the US. You will balance operational reliability with major workplace programmes, investment decisions, and long-term portfolio planning. You will directly lead the UK Facilities Manager and Head of Facilities Spain, oversee smaller international sites through local partners, and build team capability as OQC scales. Working closely with Security, IT, and Engineering, you will establish consistent global standards while empowering regional leaders to deliver locally. This role involves regular international travel, presence at key sites and major projects, and working across time zones. Significant facilities incidents or site emergencies may require availability outside standard hours.
Key responsibilities include: setting global Facilities direction and defining strategy, operating model, standards, and performance measures; translating growth plans into property decisions (new locations, serviced offices, lease renewals, relocations, exits, major investments); leading facilities planning, fit-outs, and operational readiness for expansion and workplace programmes; building and leading the function through coaching regional managers and planning recruitment and succession; owning operational and capital budgets and holding suppliers and landlords accountable; leading health, safety, and environmental (HSE) governance and resilience, including setting global minimum standards and ensuring business continuity and emergency plans; and advancing environmental performance by embedding sustainability into estate decisions, energy use, waste, and supplier choices.
Requirements: Track record of leading a multi-site Facilities or workplace function in complex operational environments with adaptability to respond as a business grows. Facilities experience across multiple countries or jurisdictions, or experience establishing international offices and serviced-office locations. Experience leading through managers, internal teams, and external suppliers, with strong coaching, resource planning, and performance management skills. Ownership of substantial operational and capital budgets with sound commercial judgement and experience managing complex contracts, supplier, and landlord relationships. Experience shaping estate or workplace strategy and delivering major cross-functional projects including leases, relocations, site openings, or significant workplace change. Experience leading or overseeing HSE governance and working closely with specialist HSE professionals. Strong strategic planning, stakeholder influence, and communication skills with the judgement to balance competing priorities, manage risk, and make timely decisions. Relevant Facilities, property, or equivalent professional expertise gained through qualifications or practical experience. Experience building or scaling a Facilities function through rapid organisational growth.
Nice-to-haves: Background in technology, engineering, R&D, or similarly complex environment. Contributions to environmental or sustainability programmes through property and facilities operations. Recognised Facilities Management qualification, or IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent HSE qualification.
