Upvest is a fintech infrastructure company enabling European financial institutions and fintechs to offer investment products and retirement planning services. The company partners with leading players like Revolut, N26, DKB, and Raisin, and has raised €280M from top-tier investors including BlackRock, Tencent, and Sapphire Ventures. As a German Tax Specialist, you will own critical tax mechanics and regulatory compliance across Upvest's investment platform. Your responsibilities span four core areas: **Investment Tax Mechanics & Fund Processing:** Manage daily KEST (capital gains tax) activities, controls, and incident resolution. Support the Product team in executing the annual Vorabpauschale (advance lump-sum tax) calculation under the German Investment Tax Act (InvStG). **Digital Dividend & Regulatory Reporting:** Lead the technical implementation of MiKaDiv (dividend tax reporting procedure), managing data gathering across the custody chain, beneficial ownership validation, and secure transmission to the BZSt for unique tax reference numbers (UUIDs). Handle NEK (non-withheld capital gains tax) reporting and exception workflows, ensuring seamless compliance with local tax offices via CPB. **Customer Tax Exemptions & Account Adjustments:** Manage FSAk (exemption orders) submissions and controls. Validate and audit NV-Bescheinigungen (non-assessment certificates). Oversee automated loss pot logic (Aktienverlusttopf and Allgemeiner Verlusttopf), including cross-pot optimization and cross-border transfers. Blueprint and implement backward tax corrections for deceased accounts, ensuring retroactive FSA dissolution and loss pot recalculation. Control church tax queries (KiStAM) with correct split-tax formulas for joint accounts. **Tax Documentation & Core IT Collaboration:** Support flawless generation of annual Jahressteuerbescheinigung (German tax certificates) including complex joint-account scenarios. Act as primary business analyst for Product and Engineering teams, translating German tax regulatory updates into automated core banking system logic and technical tax specifications. You will work in a modern, impact-driven environment with access to cutting-edge AI tools (€20k/year budget), flexible hybrid work across Berlin, London, or Tallinn, 30 days annual leave, professional coaching, and an equity program. The role offers significant technical depth in German tax automation and regulatory compliance at a well-funded, high-growth fintech.
