Salary: USD 225,000 - 250,000 / annual
Goal Solutions is a technology-driven fintech company providing servicing, asset management, and SPV administration solutions across the consumer finance lifecycle. The company serves clients in residential solar, home improvement, student finance, personal lending, and other consumer finance markets. Headquartered in San Diego and recognized as a Best Place to Work since 2015, Goal Solutions is seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead the legal function and serve as a trusted strategic advisor to executive leadership.
In this role, you will oversee all legal matters across the organization and partner closely with executive leadership, Compliance, Operations, Finance, and external counsel. You will provide practical legal guidance, manage enterprise risk, and support sound business decisions in a highly regulated environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising executive leadership on legal, governance, risk, and strategic business matters; translating complex legal issues into practical business recommendations
- Overseeing litigation, disputes, claims, and escalated legal matters; managing outside counsel strategy, performance, and outcomes
- Reviewing, negotiating, and approving complex commercial agreements; advising business leaders on contractual risk and legal obligations
- Supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and other corporate transactions
- Partnering with Compliance on regulatory inquiries, audits, examinations, and investigations; monitoring legal and regulatory developments
- Overseeing legal department operations, priorities, and processes; managing the legal budget and outside counsel spending
- Mentoring and developing legal professionals to strengthen the company's legal capabilities
The ideal candidate combines exceptional legal expertise with sound business judgment and a practical, collaborative approach. You should have executive presence, excellent communication skills, strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities, and the capacity to balance legal rigor with commercial and operational considerations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law and good standing with a state bar
- 15+ years of progressive legal experience
- Significant experience managing litigation and complex commercial agreements
- Experience advising executive leadership and senior business stakeholders
- Experience managing outside counsel and multiple complex legal matters
- Strong legal research, analysis, negotiation, and communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Financial services, fintech, banking, lending, loan servicing, or other highly regulated industry experience
- Consumer finance experience
- Experience with structured finance transactions, securitizations, ABS structures, or SPV administration
- Experience with regulatory examinations, investigations, or enforcement matters
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, or other corporate transactions
- Prior experience as General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, or another senior in-house legal leader
