onX is a high-growth outdoor technology company building products that help people confidently explore the outdoors across Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish verticals. We're seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join the Hunt team and help build the technology powering the onX Hunt platform.
In this role, you'll design, build, and evolve customer-facing experiences across mobile applications, APIs, backend services, and data systems. You'll own technical solutions end-to-end—from architecture and design through delivery—making sound decisions about performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability. You'll build and support large-scale systems throughout their lifecycle, diagnosing complex technical issues and continuously improving the systems you own.
You'll partner closely with Product, Design, QA, and engineers across teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality customer experiences and navigate cross-team dependencies. You'll write maintainable, well-tested code using unit, integration, and acceptance testing to ensure reliability and performance. You'll also review code, share technical knowledge, and mentor other engineers in strengthening their craft.
The role includes exploring how to embed AI as a repeatable co-pilot in daily workflows, integrating experimentation into real work with sound judgment and validation.
You'll bring 5+ years of professional software development experience with at least 3+ years focused on API development. You have a strong foundation in modern API and systems design, experience building distributed microservices architectures, and proficiency with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL). Experience with Go, Elixir, or other functional programming languages is expected, along with iOS or Android development. You're passionate about writing maintainable code, have a strong sense of ownership, and advocate for customer experience. A curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI, is essential.
This is a hybrid role with offices in Austin, Denver, Minneapolis, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Montana locations (Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula). Occasional travel to corporate offices or onX strategic locations is required. Permanent US work authorization is required.
