Hex is seeking a Founding Expansion Account Executive to own a dedicated portfolio of existing SMB and Mid-Market customers. This is a founding role in Hex's new Expansion Sales function—an opportunity to build a new motion inside a fast-growing company rather than step into an established playbook.
You will be the primary point of contact for renewals and expansion within your assigned book of accounts (6+ months past their first renewal). Your responsibilities include:
• Owning renewals and expansion across your assigned customer portfolio
• Proactively identifying expansion opportunities—additional seats, new use cases, upsells—that are often left on the table after initial land
• Running your own forecast with quota split 70% against a Net Dollar Retention (NDR) growth target and 30% against a Gross Dollar Retention (GDR) retention target
• Partnering with Sales Engineering and Customer Engineering to run technical conversations with existing customers
• Helping define the Account Manager playbook and territory model as one of the first people in the function
• Coordinating the AE-to-AM handoff for accounts moving into your book
You will report to the Expansion AE Manager and work closely with Sales leadership, Sales Engineers, and the AE team providing account handoffs.
Hex helps thousands of teams explore, analyze, and act on their data every day. This role offers the chance to deepen customer relationships and drive meaningful expansion in a fast-growing data software company.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 3+ years owning a book of business in SaaS (account management, renewals, or customer success role with a real commercial/quota component)
• Track record of driving expansion (not just retention) in existing accounts, ideally in technical or data-adjacent software
• Comfort being one of the first people in a new function with no established playbook
• Ability to run genuine commercial conversations (this is explicitly not a CSM role) while partnering closely with SE/CE on the technical side
• Discipline to run real pipeline and forecast hygiene across a large book, not just a handful of strategic accounts
• Genuine enthusiasm for cross-functional partnership with Sales leadership, SEs, and the AE team
