Salary: CAD 201,000 - 335,000 / annual
Tailscale is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between the company and its most strategic enterprise customers. In this customer-facing role, you will own the onboarding, adoption, and long-term success of key accounts, combining deep technical expertise with consultative problem-solving.
Key responsibilities include leading onboarding for new strategic customers, providing expert technical support across Tailscale's secure networking platform, conducting quarterly business reviews to identify expansion opportunities, and acting as a trusted advisor to help customers optimize their use of the product. You'll diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to networking, VPNs, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps tooling. Additionally, you'll serve as the voice of the customer internally, relaying feedback to product and engineering teams, and develop technical documentation and best practices to enable customer self-service.
You'll work cross-functionally with sales, product, engineering, and support teams to ensure smooth customer handoffs and drive adoption across the organization.
Required qualifications: 6+ years in technical roles with a minimum of 2 years in customer-facing positions (Solutions Engineer, Senior Support Engineer, or similar). You must have enterprise customer experience, strong understanding of networking, VPNs, security principles, and hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and DevOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes). Excellent communication skills are essential—you'll need to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. You should be analytical, detail-oriented, and passionate about building long-term customer relationships while managing multiple accounts and priorities.
