Applied Intuition is seeking a Firmware HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) Engineer to support the development and testing infrastructure for physical AI systems across automotive, defense, and industrial applications. The role bridges embedded firmware development with test automation and infrastructure, requiring expertise across multiple technical domains.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing test automation frameworks in Python/Bash that interact with real physical hardware, building and scaling hardware test lab infrastructure to manage hundreds of test benches running thousands of daily jobs, and diagnosing/fixing flaky integration tests in production CI environments.
On the embedded hardware side, you'll work with firmware/embedded systems that interact with PC-side applications, use JTAG debuggers (JLINK, Lauterbach) for target bring-up, and perform hardware/software debugging using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes. You'll also contribute to Linux systems administration on baremetal machines, including networking, kernel modules, and systemd configuration.
The ideal candidate has 4+ years as a software engineer with at least 2 years in system architecture and implementation. A BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field is required. Nice-to-have skills include CI/CD pipeline design (Buildkite, Jenkins), Bazel/monorepo experience, automotive bus protocols (CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay), and Nix/NixOS expertise.
