Apex manufactures satellite buses at scale for the commercial space industry, combining software, vertical integration, and hardware-focused manufacturing. As the company expands its satellite manufacturing footprint, we are seeking a Facilities Manager to lead day-to-day operations, maintenance programs, vendors, and the facilities team to keep our engineering, laboratory, and manufacturing environments safe, compliant, and efficient.
This is a hybrid leadership role in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment. You will own the facilities team and programs, enabling senior facilities leadership to focus on strategy, capital planning, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & People Management (20%): Hire, develop, schedule, and manage the facilities team including leads, technicians, associates, and in-house janitorial staff. Set priorities, assign work, and hold the team and vendors accountable to quality, safety, and timeliness standards. Coach and develop staff through performance reviews and manage performance issues. Build cross-training and coverage plans to sustain critical functions across shifts and sites. Foster a culture of safety, service, and continuous improvement.
Facilities Operations & Maintenance Programs (25%): Own preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, compressed air, and building systems. Ensure rapid response and resolution for facilities issues impacting production, safety, or employee experience. Maintain critical spares and consumables to minimize downtime. Direct maintenance of light-industrial, lab, and production-support equipment in coordination with Manufacturing and Engineering. Step in hands-on during escalations, emergencies, or peak demand.
Vendor, Contract & Budget Management (20%): Manage on-site vendors and service providers including janitorial, security, HVAC, fire safety, waste, landscaping, and utilities. Track vendor performance against SLAs and drive service quality, cost control, and accountability. Lead contract renewals, RFPs, and vendor onboarding with scope and pricing negotiations. Prepare and manage the facilities operating budget and forecasts; monitor expenditures, validate invoices, and maintain financial controls. Identify and drive cost-reduction and value-engineering opportunities.
Projects, Build-Outs & Space Planning (20%): Lead site-level facilities projects from intake through close-out including scope, budget, schedule, contractor coordination, and documentation. Support build-outs, renovations, equipment installs, and infrastructure upgrades. Lead space planning including capacity assessments, layouts, equipment placement, moves, parking, and access control. Coordinate project timing to minimize disruption to manufacturing and site operations. Track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables for on-time, on-budget execution.
Compliance, Safety & Risk (10%): Own facilities compliance with building codes, lease requirements, and permitted-use conditions. Partner with EHS to execute OSHA and safety programs including inspections, corrective actions, lock-out/tag-out, and incident follow-up. Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and insurance requirements through accurate documentation. Lead facilities response to emergencies, outages, and business-continuity events. Maintain HAZMAT, waste, and environmental compliance.
Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement (5%): Maintain facilities documentation, drawings, asset records, logs, and compliance records. Use a CMMS/IWMS to manage assets, work orders, and preventive-maintenance schedules. Track and report on work orders, costs, uptime, and service performance. Identify and drive improvements in efficiency, reliability, sustainability, and employee experience.
