Salary: USD 186,000 - 202,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the Mission Electrical team in San Jose. This hands-on management role oversees electrical engineers who customize Muon's spacecraft platforms for specific missions, owning all electrical customization from avionics and power systems to payload interfaces.
You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers while staying technically engaged in design reviews, hardware debugging, and technical problem-solving. Key responsibilities include managing team resourcing across concurrent missions, owning electrical deliverables from requirements through design, build, integration, and test, and collaborating with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams. You'll work closely with mission formulation teams to translate customer needs into electrical solutions, define harness specifications and payload interfaces, and establish engineering standards for documentation, ECO/DCO discipline, and test procedures.
The role requires 8+ years designing, integrating, or testing complex electrical systems in harsh environments (spacecraft, aviation, automotive, robotics), plus 2+ years managing or technically leading engineering teams. You must have strong ability to read and debug electrical designs, solid understanding of spacecraft electronics including avionics, power distribution, and harnessing, and proficiency with schematic capture tools (Altium, Cadence/OrCAD) and lab equipment. A B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field is required.
Nice-to-have skills include satellite industry experience, radiation-tolerant electronics design, direct customer engagement on mission requirements, embedded firmware familiarity (C/C++, embedded Linux), and test automation using Python. This position is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose. The role reports to the Senior Director of Spacecraft Structures & Missions.
