BackOps AI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Infrastructure and Security team. This role owns the reliability, security posture, and operational foundation of everything BackOps runs—multi-cloud and on-premises deployments, SLOs, private networking, least-privilege access, and SOC 2 compliance. You will lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of infrastructure and security engineers as the company scales. Key responsibilities include hiring and developing talent, owning multi-cloud and on-prem infrastructure with cost optimization, establishing security posture through identity management and secrets management, and building security into engineering workflows rather than bolting it on afterward. You'll create paved roads and guardrails in CI/CD that teams adopt because they're the fastest path, set high standards for operational readiness and observability, and translate risk into actionable insights for leadership and customers. The ideal candidate has 5+ years managing engineers with a strong hands-on infrastructure or security engineering background. You should have deep expertise in cloud-native architecture (AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD) and real depth in security engineering (identity, access control, secrets management, vulnerability management). You'll have a track record of turning loosely defined, high-stakes mandates into sequenced, measurable delivery, and experience shipping through influence across team boundaries. Strong communication skills with engineers, executives, and customers are essential. Nice-to-have experience includes SOC 2 Type I/II or ISO 27001 audits, compliance automation tools (Vanta, Drata), multi-tenant SaaS or customer-hosted deployments, and securing AI or agentic systems. BackOps values sustainable pace, measuring risk removed rather than tickets closed, and building a culture where heroics signal system problems, not achievements. Success means controls are operating and measurable, enterprise security reviews are streamlined, engineers adopt security practices because they're the easiest path, and the team grows while maintaining high standards. You'll have direct access to founders and customers, real autonomy, and the opportunity to shape infrastructure and security for an AI-native company from the ground up.
