WalletConnect Foundation is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Financial Services engineering team, reporting to the CTO. You'll manage a cross-functional squad of engineers building value-added services on the WalletConnect Network, including DeFi access, treasury management, and security & compliance systems.
As Engineering Manager, you'll own squad delivery and technical outcomes, partnering closely with Product to shape roadmap, maintain high quality and velocity standards, and ensure the team meets WalletConnect's engineering bar. You'll run the squad's operating rhythm (planning, standups, retros), set team OKRs aligned with company strategy, and hold regular 1:1s with every engineer to coach, provide honest feedback, and build career paths.
You'll be a strong technical voice—reviewing designs and architecture, challenging trade-offs pragmatically, and fostering a culture of high-quality code. You'll own reliability outcomes for the squad's services, including SLOs, error budgets, alert quality, on-call rotations, and blameless incident reviews. You'll make pragmatic trade-off calls between roadmap, tech debt, and operational work, and mediate across Product, Design, other squads, and leadership to protect team focus and surface risks early.
You'll partner with the People team on hiring, defining standards, running calibrated interviews, and owning candidate onboarding and time-to-productivity. The role requires reading team health signals and acting early on team dynamics, delivery risk, or technical drift.
Requirements: 7+ years software engineering experience with 2+ years managing engineers. Deep technical credibility with senior ICs and hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems at scale. Proven track record building, growing, and retaining high-performing teams. Experience leading remote-first, distributed teams. Preferred: experience owning business-critical financial services (trading, treasury, exchange, or financial infrastructure). Strong structured planning, pragmatic decision-making, and honest communication skills. Self-aware, coachable, and motivated by quality and innovation.
Nice-to-haves: financial infrastructure domain depth (CEX integrations, custody, treasury, DeFi protocols, reconciliation, screening); crypto/web3 experience; Rust/TypeScript on AWS; Grafana observability; infrastructure-as-code; experience introducing squad-level operating standards (SLOs, error budgets, DORA metrics).
