Bitwarden, a trusted identity and password management platform serving millions of users globally, is establishing an India Engineering Center of Excellence and seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on build, release, and infrastructure tooling.
In this role, you will lead and grow a team of Build Release Engineers (BRE) and Self-Hosted Orchestration and Tooling (SHOT) engineers. This is primarily a people-management and process-leadership position, though technical credibility and the ability to engage hands-on in CI/CD, automation, and release engineering are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of infrastructure and release engineers
- Facilitating agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives)
- Identifying and resolving blockers, communicating progress to stakeholders
- Leading technical discussions and shaping architectural vision across India and US teams
- Aligning team priorities with organizational goals in partnership with US-based leadership
- Maintaining a healthy backlog balancing features, support, and technical debt
- Conducting 1:1s, performance reviews, and supporting career development
- Creating an inclusive, collaborative team environment
- Maintaining technical depth in CI/CD, automation, and release engineering to troubleshoot complex problems
You bring 10-12 years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years managing engineering teams. You have experience in globally distributed environments, managing cross-regional teams across time zones, and working in Product Engineering or Center of Excellence settings. You're skilled in Agile practices, modern engineering delivery, and have a strong technical background in CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code. Experience with BRE, SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering teams is preferred. You communicate effectively across Engineering, Product, Design, and executive stakeholders, lead through influence and collaboration, and are energized by building and scaling high-performing teams.
