Applied Intuition is a $15B-valued AI infrastructure company powering physical intelligence for autonomous systems across automotive, defense, trucking, and industrial sectors. The Forward Deployed Engineering team deploys and integrates Applied Intuition's tools, operating systems, and autonomy stacks directly onto defense platforms in operational environments.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 8-12 Forward Deployed Engineers, each operating with startup-level autonomy on high-stakes, customer-facing projects. Your responsibilities include:
- Team leadership: hiring, mentoring, and developing exceptional engineers who own end-to-end project execution
- Technical direction: setting architecture standards and technical approaches across concurrent defense engagements
- Delivery ownership: managing a portfolio of concurrent programs with defense and government customers, from defense contractors to forward operating bases
- Customer representation: serving as the primary escalation point and authority figure with defense/government stakeholders on mission-critical projects
- Systems thinking: designing scalable, repeatable delivery practices that span software, hardware, and operational integration
- Hands-on technical leadership: staying close to the technology, reviewing architectures, pressure-testing integration approaches, and diving in when programs require it
You will work on deploying vehicle intelligence products in military and government environments, tackling software engineering, OS configuration, system deployment, and hardware integration challenges. The role bridges customer-built systems with Applied Intuition's solutions to deliver tangible operational value.
Required qualifications: U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain/maintain U.S. security clearance, production-grade software deployment experience (not R&D), proven mentorship and engineering leadership, strong background in computer engineering/science/electrical engineering, broad technical experience across software/OS/hardware, and demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, rapidly evolving operational environments.
