Salary: USD 225,000 - 260,000 / annual
Lead a Data Platform team of 4–6 engineers as a player-coach at Adonis, an AI-driven healthcare revenue cycle management platform. You will own the team's roadmap, delivery, and health while maintaining hands-on technical credibility to review architecture, unblock hard problems, and contribute directly to the codebase when needed.
The team operates on Snowflake, SQLMesh, Temporal, Python, and AWS, with Fivetran for ingestion and Datadog for observability. Your mandate spans enterprise EHR extract infrastructure (Epic Clarity, Athena, ODBC-based sources), core entity modeling, hospital health-system readiness, and platform reliability, cost, and governance at growing scale.
Key responsibilities include managing team performance, growth, coaching, and retention; owning the roadmap with product and Head of Data; setting architecture direction with senior ICs; owning hiring and raising the bar; running production with focus on reliability, SLAs, on-call health, and warehouse cost; operating across the organization to partner with DS/ML, forward-deployed engineering, and customer-facing teams; building process where it creates leverage; and driving an AI-native engineering culture by integrating AI development tooling into how the team builds, reviews, and operates.
You bring 8+ years in data or backend engineering, including 2+ years directly managing engineers with clear ownership of outcomes. You have genuine hands-on capability today—able to pass coding screens and hold your own in systems design discussions about warehouses, orchestration, and pipeline failure modes. Direct experience operating production data platforms is essential: warehouse architecture (Snowflake or similar), orchestration (Temporal, Airflow, or similar), and transformation frameworks (SQLMesh/dbt). You have evidence of building or scaling teams, managing up with judgment, and operating with startup metabolism in lean environments.
Nice-to-have qualifications include healthcare data experience (EHR integrations, claims, HL7/FHIR, PHI/HIPAA), warehouse cost management and governance experience, and prior player-coach roles at Series A–C companies.
