BackOps AI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Core Product Engineering team, responsible for building the foundational systems that power supply-chain workflow automations. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll guide a team of product engineers while staying deeply involved in technical decisions, code reviews, and design discussions.
You will own the evolution of BackOps' core product platform—the reusable workflow automations customers depend on to run their operations. Your responsibilities include hiring and mentoring a high-performing engineering team, overseeing the complete software development lifecycle (architecture, design, code review, testing, release, and production support), and driving predictable delivery with high engineering standards.
This role requires close collaboration with Product and Design teams in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve and patterns are still being established. You'll work directly with customers and design partners to understand their operational needs and ensure the product adapts accordingly. A key part of the job is building team fluency in evaluating and improving AI agents in production, with a focus on reliability, safety, and performance in live customer environments.
You should be comfortable with ambiguity, bring strong product instincts to design reviews, and champion a genuine AI-first engineering approach. The role offers direct access to founders and customers, real team autonomy, and the opportunity to shape a core product at a critical inflection point.
