The Zebra is seeking an Engineering Manager (Manager II) to lead a high-impact engineering team. You'll report to the Director of Engineering and own team leadership, technical strategy, and execution of software that serves millions of insurance customers.
In this role, you will lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, career development, and performance coaching. You'll drive technical excellence by fostering best practices in software development and architecture. You'll collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to define and execute roadmaps aligned with company objectives. You'll manage sprint planning, execution, and delivery to ensure projects ship on time and meet quality standards.
You'll encourage data-driven decision-making, balancing technical feasibility with business impact. You'll advocate for scalability, reliability, and maintainability in all technical solutions and promote a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews, technical discussions, and retrospectives. You'll partner with recruiting to attract and onboard engineering talent.

Requirements: 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in engineering management. Strong background in Python and/or JavaScript. Fluency with agentic software development and AI tools. Demonstrated success leading teams, managing projects, and driving technical roadmaps. Proven ability to develop and mentor engineers and foster high-performing teams. Deep understanding of agile/scrum methodologies. Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills. Balance of technical depth and strategic thinking focused on business impact. Experience in fintech/insuretech is a plus.
What will impress: Experience building applications with large language models, training, and fine-tuning. Deep fullstack knowledge (React, Django, FastAPI). Experience operating and scaling systems in AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Demonstrated impact as a technical lead with architectural influence.
