Hex Technologies is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the strategy, execution, and growth of their AI context platform. The role sits at the heart of Hex's vision: making the product better every time users interact with it. With tens of thousands of daily users relying on Hex for deep analytical work, the company is uniquely positioned to learn from usage patterns and continuously improve system intelligence.
The context platform is the surface where users understand how AI agents interact with their data, identify quality gaps, and actively improve the context driving better outcomes. The team is building an entirely new development lifecycle for context, blending human insight with automated learning and iteration.
Key responsibilities include leading a team focused on the context platform, driving technical strategy while reviewing designs and contributing hands-on code, serving as people manager for engineers on the team, and recruiting exceptional engineering talent. The broader AI landscape is evolving rapidly, and the team tackles foundational questions: detecting and debugging agent reasoning failures, structuring and managing business context effectively, balancing human-in-the-loop systems with autonomous improvement, and integrating the context layer with the growing AI-powered tools ecosystem.
You will need 4+ years as a full-stack software engineer and 2+ years leading engineering teams on complex, data-intensive, or AI-driven SaaS products. The ideal candidate has exceptional ability to identify and design technical abstractions, deep curiosity about state-of-the-art AI agent behavior and context systems, and a proven track record building and operating high-performing product engineering teams. You should bring a clear playbook for setting technical standards, hiring strong talent, and creating environments where exceptional engineers thrive. This is a deeply technical leadership role requiring hands-on involvement when necessary.
The role is full-time, based in either San Francisco or New York, with an expectation to come into the office at least twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays are main in-person days). Hex offers competitive total rewards including market-benchmarked salary and equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.
