Bestow is a vertical technology platform serving major life insurers, modernizing a centuries-old industry through AI-powered infrastructure. The platform unifies fragmented legacy systems, enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years.
As Engineering Director, you will lead two closely coupled engineering groups: Implementation Platform Configuration (IPC), which owns how carrier products come to life on the platform, and Enrollment Platform Core, which manages the enrollment workflow while supporting multiple partner implementations. You'll report to the VP of Engineering and manage 2-3 Engineering Managers overseeing roughly 20-30 engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
• Set technical direction for the configuration layer, enrollment workflow engine, and event-sourced domain services, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance across a microservices architecture built in Golang, Python, and TypeScript on PostgreSQL, deployed on Kubernetes in Google Cloud Platform.
• Drive repeatability and configuration-driven patterns to reduce implementation costs and accelerate time-to-market for new carrier partners.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives beyond your direct reports, owning interfaces with Product, Delivery Management, Underwriting, and Compliance teams to surface requirements and dependencies early.
• Own delivery commitments to carrier partners, including UAT handoffs and accurate status reporting to executive leadership.
• Establish incident response discipline: drive urgency, conduct root-cause analysis, identify systemic patterns, and enforce operational ownership.
• Build scalable testing strategies combining automated coverage with human-readable outcomes for compliance and underwriting reviewers.
• Develop your leadership bench through rigorous performance management, career ladder expectations, calibration, and personalized growth plans.
• Own hiring for your organization, act as hiring manager, manage the recruiting funnel, and maintain quality standards for full-time and contractor partners.
• Direct AI adoption strategy personally—establish standards for AI-generated code, reduce technical debt, and coach teams on AI competencies.
• Represent Bestow externally in technical discussions with carrier partners, vendors, and during due diligence.
