OpenAI is seeking an Employer Brand Manager to build and scale the strategy, narrative, and operating system that shapes how priority talent understands the company as a frontier AI research lab. This senior individual contributor role sits at the intersection of recruiting, communications, marketing, and brand, with a mandate to establish OpenAI's unique identity in the talent market and make its distinctive research environment, mission, culture, and impact tangible to key talent audiences.
In this role, you will lead OpenAI's employer brand strategy across all talent functions, anchored in the company's identity as a frontier research lab. You'll develop a distinctive "why OpenAI / why now" narrative that translates culture, technical ambition, and impact into credible stories substantiated by frontier research, world-class infrastructure, research-to-product translation, deployment scale, and candid engagement with hard questions.
Key responsibilities include: building a scalable content and enablement system spanning the careers site, employee stories, job descriptions, outreach, events, and recruiter/leader guidance; using candidate, employee, recruiter, and market insights to sharpen audience priorities and positioning; ensuring the external brand promise holds throughout the candidate journey; measuring brand perception, audience engagement, and recruiting impact; and building an AI-native operating model across recruiting, communications, marketing, brand, and external partners.
You should have 7+ years in employer branding, talent marketing, research communications, recruitment marketing, or related fields. Ideal candidates have experience scaling programs across both high-growth startups and established organizations, can build trust with technical leaders, are exceptional writers who translate complex technical work into accessible narratives, and use research and data to drive decisions. You'll need high agency, strong judgment, bias toward action, and the ability to operate with sound discretion in high-stakes, high-scrutiny environments. Experience leading external agencies or creative partners and an AI-native mindset—actively experimenting with AI tools while applying strong human judgment—are valued.
The role is based in San Francisco, New York, or Remote in the US.
