Impiricus is an AI-powered Agentic Commercialization Platform for Healthcare that helps life sciences teams understand physician intent, coordinate clinical and commercial resources, and enable real-time action when healthcare professionals need support. The platform serves over one million opted-in HCPs through products including ION, Pulse, Spark, and Ascend.
The Director, Product Design is a player-coach role responsible for leading the design function while remaining hands-on with high-impact product work. This role owns product design across the portfolio, sets standards for the design practice, and manages designers as the function grows.
Key responsibilities include:
**Product Design Leadership**: Own product design across the portfolio and maintain consistent standards for clarity, accessibility, and workflow fit. Stay hands-on on highest-stakes surfaces, covering mobile, consumer-grade interactions, and complex health tech platform work. Hold released product to a consistent standard.
**User Discovery**: Plan and run user discovery with HCPs, patients, and internal users. Turn research and feedback into actionable design direction. Build durable understanding of physician and operator workflows and bring insights into roadmap conversations early. Partner with Product on measurement to evaluate experience changes post-launch.
**Design System & AI Design**: Own the product design system including components, patterns, and tokens. Maintain and extend the design framework so standards remain usable in code and AI-assisted build flows, including homegrown tools. Design AI-powered product experiences including conversational flows and agent interactions. Establish critique, review, and quality standards for the design team, including work on AI surfaces.
**Cross-Functional Partnership**: Partner with product and engineering leads from discovery through delivery. Represent design in product planning to surface experience risk and opportunity early. Partner with Engineering on feasibility and implementation fidelity. Partner with Compliance and MLR on regulatory requirements that shape product UI.
The role reports to the SVP, Product and is full-time, exempt.
**Requirements**:
- 7+ years in product design with a portfolio of complex, workflow-heavy shipped products
- Experience across mobile and web, including platform or multi-surface products
- Health tech, life sciences, or other regulated product design experience strongly preferred
- Track record owning a design system or framework in production (not just a library)
- Experience designing for AI-assisted, conversational, or agentic product surfaces, or equivalent platform/builder UI
- Track record running user discovery, not only taking requirements from PM
- Experience managing designers or standing up a small design function
- Strong hands-on craft in interaction design, visual design, and prototyping; comfortable as a player-coach
- Credible partner to product and engineering leadership without needing to own the PM role
- Product management experience is a plus, not required
