Salary: USD 181,713 - 261,727 / annual

Consensys (MetaMask) is seeking a Director of Technical Accounting to lead the interpretation and implementation of complex accounting standards across the organization. This role serves as the company's subject-matter expert on U.S. GAAP, partnering closely with Finance, Legal, FP&A, and business teams to ensure accurate, compliant, and well-documented accounting treatment for complex and non-routine transactions—including those involving digital assets and blockchain-based products. This is a highly visible position with direct exposure to senior leadership and external auditors. Key responsibilities include: - Research, interpret, and apply accounting standards (ASC 606 revenue recognition, ASC 842 leases, ASC 805 business combinations, ASC 718 stock-based compensation, debt/equity instruments, consolidation, impairment) to company-specific transactions - Evaluate and document accounting treatment for digital asset and crypto-related transactions, including holdings, token issuances, staking, and blockchain-native arrangements using ASC 350-60 and relevant guidance - Draft technical accounting memos and position papers for complex or judgmental transactions, new products, M&A activity, financing arrangements, and non-routine events - Monitor emerging accounting guidance from FASB, SEC, and PCAOB; assess impact and lead implementation of new standards, including drafting accounting policies and coordinating cross-functional rollout - Serve as primary liaison with external auditors on technical accounting matters, leading discussions and resolving complex issues - Partner with Legal, Treasury, Revenue, FP&A, and business unit leaders to evaluate accounting implications of new contracts, deal structures, and strategic initiatives before closing - Support M&A activity, including purchase accounting, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration from a technical accounting perspective - Develop, maintain, and update the company's accounting policy manual - Assess internal controls related to complex accounting areas and partner with Internal Controls/SOX teams - Present technical accounting matters to senior leadership and Audit Committee as needed - Partner directly with the Chief Accounting Officer and engage with industry working groups and standard-setters - Mentor and develop accounting staff, building technical accounting capability across the finance organization - Assist with SEC reporting (10-K/10-Q) disclosures related to technical accounting areas The company operates in the Web3/blockchain space, building infrastructure for decentralized finance and digital asset management. REQUIREMENTS: Required: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field - CPA license (active and in good standing) - 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or a technical accounting role in industry - Deep, current knowledge of U.S. GAAP with demonstrated experience researching and documenting complex technical accounting positions - Strong understanding of SEC reporting requirements (for public companies) or equivalent stakeholder reporting needs - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate complex accounting concepts for non-accounting audiences - Proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment Preferred: - Experience with digital assets/cryptocurrency accounting, including familiarity with ASC 350-60, token economics, DeFi, staking, and blockchain-native transaction structures - Public company experience, including direct interaction with external auditors - Experience with M&A transaction accounting and purchase accounting - Experience with system implementations affecting accounting processes (e.g., ERP, revenue systems) - Prior people-management or mentorship experience - Experience in blockchain, Web3, or fintech industry
