Rondo Energy is seeking a Director of Sales and Business Development for the Middle East region to lead commercial expansion of its thermal battery technology. Rondo's heat batteries convert low-cost electricity into stored heat and power, enabling industrial decarbonization and renewable energy deployment.
In this role, you will work alongside the Senior Director, Middle East to execute the region's full commercial agenda, with primary focus on the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. You will own the power sector account portfolio and support flagship industrial and national oil company (NOC) pursuits.
Key responsibilities include:
• Lead power sector accounts: Own relationships and pursuits with utilities, single buyers, IPPs, and renewable developers. Position Rondo in storage tenders, firm renewable power programs, and behind-the-meter projects, managing accounts from first meeting through close.
• Support flagship pursuits: Work alongside the Senior Director on the region's largest industrial and NOC opportunities (steam, cogeneration, gas turbine replacement), owning workstreams, stakeholder follow-through, analysis, and proposals.
• Business development: Use your network and relationship skills to earn access to decision makers and technical owners at customers, government entities, and partners, including hard-to-reach organizations.
• Full funnel management: Qualify opportunities rigorously, lead techno-economic discussions with client engineers, shape proposals with Rondo's application engineering team, and drive deals through negotiation to signature.
• Market development: Map tariffs, grid codes, procurement rounds, incentives, and decision makers in each priority country. Test opportunities across the wider region and feed strategic insights into Rondo's regional strategy.
• Ecosystem building: Bring in EPCs, solar IPPs, developers, and financiers to advance projects to final investment decision. Represent Rondo with government, regulators, and industry forums.
Requirements:
• At least 10 years in the power sector (utility, IPP, developer, or power equipment OEM such as gas turbines, BESS, or grid), with substantial time in sales, origination, or business development.
• Engineering degree required. Must be able to read single-line diagrams, heat and mass balances, and dispatch models. Credible in technical discussions with client engineers. Understanding of PPAs, tariffs, capacity payments, LCOE, and LCOS essential.
• Solid understanding of power systems planning and operation. Experience with PLEXOS or similar production cost and capacity expansion modeling. Knowledge of what drives total system economics (generation mix, reserve and flexibility needs, curtailment, network constraints, fuel displacement, avoided capacity).
• Strong regional network and talent for building relationships quickly. Demonstrated persistence in accessing organizations that do not open easily. Track record of creating pipeline for unfamiliar technologies.
• Personal experience taking large energy or infrastructure deals from first contact to signed contract in the Gulf region.
• Comfortable supporting a senior colleague on one account while owning another independently, in a fast-moving, venture-backed environment.
• Fluent English required; Arabic strongly preferred. MBA a plus.
• Nice to have: Gas turbine experience (sales, project development, or operations), energy storage (battery or thermal), industrial steam and cogeneration, or experience selling new technology to NOCs and utilities.
Note: Role must be based in Dubai. Applicants must be entitled to work in this location; visa sponsorships and relocation costs are not supported at this time.
