Overstory is a climate-tech company using AI and satellite imagery to help electrical utilities identify and mitigate vegetation risks to power lines, preventing outages and wildfires. The company is scaling from early-stage infrastructure to a mature, reliable platform supporting rapid product development and growing customer demand.
As Director of Platform Engineering, you will lead Platform, SRE, and MLOps teams reporting to the VP of Product Engineering. Your mandate is to create organizational leverage by building systems, standards, and teams that enable speed while establishing foundations for long-term scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own platform strategy across Platform, MLOps, and SRE, aligned with company and product goals
- Grow senior individual contributors and develop future managers across multiple teams
- Define and evolve platform vision including developer experience, internal tooling, CI/CD, infrastructure, observability, and reliability standards
- Oversee MLOps systems supporting model development, training, deployment, monitoring, and governance in production
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, ML, Data, Security, and Compliance teams
- Balance speed and stability through thoughtful tradeoffs between innovation, cost, reliability, and operational excellence
- Set metrics and accountability for platform performance, reliability, and developer productivity
You will combine deep technical judgment with systems thinking, strong people leadership, and a passion for building platforms that empower others. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role critical to the company's transition from startup infrastructure to enterprise-grade systems.
Required experience: 10+ years leading platform, infrastructure, or reliability teams in scaling startups; strong cloud-native infrastructure knowledge (GCP preferred); Kubernetes and modern DevOps expertise; experience supporting ML systems in production; proven track record building reliable, scalable systems for fast-moving teams; excellent people leadership and cross-organizational influence skills.
Preferred: experience with geospatial data, image processing, or mapping technology.
