Preply is a unicorn edtech platform (Series D, $150M) that connects 100,000+ tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners across 180 countries. You will lead Preply's IT function as it scales from a lean, high-performing team into a strategic, AI-native operations engine.
You will own the full IT strategy and roadmap, treating IT as a business enabler rather than a cost center. This is both an architect and hands-on operator role: you'll set vision and tooling strategy while staying close enough to script, automate, and configure systems yourself.
Key responsibilities:
**Strategy & Business Enablement**: Own a multi-quarter IT roadmap tied to Preply's business goals. Set tooling standards across the organization—decide what to adopt, consolidate, and retire. Operate fluidly between leadership strategy and sharp technical calls. Anticipate needs 12–18 months ahead and implement controls appropriate for a pre-IPO company.
**AI-Native Operations & Automation**: Bring an automate-first mindset to provisioning, access, support deflection, and asset reconciliation. Build and ship automations yourself to model best practices. Surface AI tooling that genuinely adds value to employee workflows. Extend AI-native ways of working across the organization.
**Team Leadership**: Lead and mature a lean IT team into a senior, process-driven function. Raise the technical bar, coaching toward AI-fluent ways of working. Stay hands-on in scripting, automation, MDM, and identity configuration. Build operating rhythm (SLAs, runbooks, prioritization) that scales impact without proportional headcount growth.
**Global Infrastructure & Fleet**: Own international device lifecycle end-to-end across multiple countries—procurement, enrollment, retirement. Run identity, access, and endpoint management to high reliability standards for a distributed workforce. Manage the Barcelona hub's on-site technology (office network, meeting-room AV, video conferencing). Own IT services for company off-sites and events globally. Maintain IT's own security and compliance hygiene as a core principle.
**Procurement & FinOps**: Own visibility into IT, SaaS, and software spend. Partner with Finance and Procurement on contracts, renewals, and vendor rationalization. Drive cost and compliance efficiency by eliminating shadow IT and consolidating overlapping tools.
**Data & Stakeholder Management**: Build dashboards and reporting that give leadership clear, current visibility into IT health, spend, and initiative status. Provide proactive follow-ups so leadership never chases. Manage and influence C-level stakeholders directly, translating technical reality into business decisions. Make decisions from data, not anecdotes.
**Security Partnership**: Co-own the identity lifecycle in Okta (joiner, mover, leaver flows, access reviews, least privilege). Enforce endpoint compliance baselines in Jamf and keep audit-ready control evidence. Implement and operate ITGC controls behind SOX readiness and SOC 2 compliance. Share ownership of AI tool governance—evaluation, approval, and allow-listing.
**The Stack**: You'll operate Okta (identity/SSO/SCIM), Jamf (700 Macs, zero-touch enrollment), Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian (Jira, Confluence), Claude Enterprise, OpenAI, Cursor, Gemini, and Okta Workflows for automation.
**Requirements**:
- 5+ years leading and growing IT teams or functions in fast-scaling technology companies
- True architect and operator: set strategy while staying hands-on with scripting, automation, MDM, and identity configuration
- Deep experience running international fleet and device management, identity, and endpoint management (Jamf, Okta, or equivalents)
- Strong command of SaaS and software spend management, FinOps practices, and comfort partnering with Finance on cost visibility and forecasting
- AI-first, automate-first operator: proven track record using AI to remove toil, with clear, opinionated views on tooling
- Proven ability to manage and influence senior, C-level stakeholders
- Data-driven approach: rely on dashboards and reporting to drive decisions; plan ahead
- Treat IT's own security and compliance hygiene as non-negotiable
- Professional fluency in English
**Nice to have**:
- Experience in remote-first or globally distributed companies
- Familiarity with modern cloud, identity, and endpoint stacks (GCP, AWS, Okta, Jamf, Jira, Confluence, Slack)
- Track record maturing early-stage IT functions into structured, senior teams
- Hands-on experience with office IT: on-site networking, meeting-room AV, video conferencing, and technology for off-sites and company events
