Perplexity AI is seeking a Director of Events to build and lead a world-class events function from the ground up. You will own the complete events strategy and execution across hosted events, speaking engagements, and sponsorships—both domestically and internationally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute the events strategy: decide which events to host, which stages to speak on, and which sponsorships to pursue
- Produce flagship hosted events including product launches, executive dinners, summits, and roadshows—from concept and programming through venue selection, vendor management, and run-of-show execution
- Lead the speaking program: select high-impact stages, prepare executives and speakers, and manage day-of logistics
- Manage sponsorship relationships: negotiate terms, design Perplexity's footprint, and track ROI against budget
- Partner with Sales on field events to ensure the right customers are in the room and follow-up is executed
- Collaborate with Brand and Creative to ensure every event reflects Perplexity's product identity and brand promise
- Build and lead the events team, balancing individual contributor work with team management and development
- Establish systems and playbooks: event tiers, intake processes, vendor and agency relationships, budget frameworks
- Drive measurement and accountability: track attendance, media coverage, pipeline impact, signups, and brand sentiment to determine which events deliver ROI
- Be present on-site for high-impact events to ensure execution excellence
This role reports to leadership and requires someone who can operate as both a hands-on producer and a strategic leader. You'll work cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Communications, Brand, Finance, Legal, and executives.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of event production experience, including large-scale hosted events, sponsorship programs, and field marketing initiatives, ideally in-house at a technology company
- Proven track record building or leading an events team
- Experience owning large budgets, managing agency relationships, and negotiating vendor contracts
- Demonstrated expertise in sponsorship negotiation and deal evaluation
- Experience running an executive speaking program: selecting stages, preparing speakers, managing execution
- Deep production knowledge: run-of-show design, staging, AV, registration, staffing, security, permits
- Track record of building event attribution models and measuring brand sentiment and business impact
- Ability to partner effectively across Sales, Product, Communications, Brand, Finance, Legal, and executive leadership
- Proficiency with AI tools; ability to demonstrate how AI can enhance event operations and strategy
- Based in San Francisco or New York with willingness to travel internationally
