Ripple is seeking a Director of Engineering, Infrastructure to lead the technical and organizational strategy for its multi-cloud, Kubernetes-native infrastructure platform. This is a hands-on leadership role managing multiple teams and managers across compute platform, cloud infrastructure, developer experience, and reliability engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading technical and organizational strategy for multi-cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes platform, balancing reliability, security, cost, and developer velocity
- Managing multiple teams and managers across compute, cloud infrastructure, developer experience, and reliability engineering
- Defining and delivering a multi-year infrastructure roadmap covering cluster architecture, workload orchestration, service networking, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD
- Setting operational excellence standards including SLOs, incident response, on-call health, blameless postmortems, and dynamic rollout practices
- Driving multi-cloud strategy and execution, including workload placement, portability, disaster recovery, and multi-region resilience
- Partnering with Security and Compliance to build infrastructure meeting SOC 2, ISO 27001, and jurisdiction-specific regulatory requirements
- Owning cloud spend and unit economics accountability as the platform scales
- Providing hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, design docs, incident escalations, and code contributions
- Mentoring and developing team members at all levels
- Establishing team objectives and quarterly plans aligned with business goals
- Translating infrastructure investments for engineers, product leaders, and executives
- Scaling the organization by attracting and developing exceptional leaders and engineers
Required qualifications:
- 12+ years of hands-on software and infrastructure engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams and managing managers
- Deep, production-grade experience with Kubernetes at scale (multi-cluster, multi-tenant operations, upgrade strategy, workload isolation, autoscaling)
- Experience operating across multiple major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) with clear perspective on multi-cloud value
- Strong background in infrastructure-as-code and declarative operations (Terraform, Helm, GitOps tools like Argo CD or Flux)
- Track record building highly available, secure distributed systems with strong observability (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting)
- Experience with service networking and service mesh technologies, securing traffic and identity across cloud boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to improve developer experience measurably (build/deploy times, environment provisioning, self-service capabilities)
- Experience partnering with security and regulatory functions in regulated environments; comfort with least-privilege, key management, and audit requirements
