Handshake is seeking a senior communications leader to own and evolve corporate communications strategy. The company operates a three-sided marketplace connecting 25 million job seekers, 1 million+ employers, and 1,600 educational institutions. In 2025, Handshake launched Handshake AI, a rapidly growing AI data business now at ~$1B run rate, creating a unique position at the intersection of career development and AI innovation. In this senior individual contributor role (no direct reports), you will own corporate positioning, press strategy, media relations, and executive visibility. Key responsibilities include developing and executing corporate communications strategy across company, careers, education, and AI narratives; building and maintaining relationships with workforce and AI industry journalists; proactively pitching stories, announcements, and thought leadership; partnering with the CEO and leadership team on executive narratives, speeches, op-eds, and media preparation; managing corporate LinkedIn strategy and content; preparing executives for high-visibility speaking engagements and media interviews; leading reactive and issues communications during sensitive moments; building scalable communications processes; and overseeing external agency partners. The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of corporate communications, public relations, or executive communications experience, ideally from high-growth tech or top agencies. Required skills include strong executive communications expertise, proven ability to build press relationships and secure earned media coverage, excellent writing and messaging abilities, strong judgment under pressure, and comfort operating both strategically and hands-on. Experience managing external communications agencies is expected. Cross-functional collaboration with leadership, marketing, product, legal, policy, people, and sales teams is essential. Bonus experience includes familiarity with AI, future of work, labor markets, education, marketplaces, HR tech, or enterprise technology.
