Salary: USD 182,300 - 243,000 / annual
Flock Safety is seeking a Director of Communications to lead strategic external communications and PR efforts for a high-growth public safety technology company. The role reports to the VP of Communications and involves building and executing proactive external communications strategy, managing crisis communications and issues management, partnering with executive leadership on thought leadership and media placements, and establishing metrics for brand sentiment and narrative control.
You will manage a small, high-performing team of media relations experts and oversee external agency support. This is not a passive role—you are expected to actively shape narratives, write and strategize alongside your team, and operate with a high bias for action. You'll work with tier-1 media, advise C-suite leaders on messaging, and help grow your team's judgment in high-stakes environments.
Flock has raised over $1B in funding and operates at significant scale: last year the company supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. The company is 1,700 people strong and prioritizes candidates in Atlanta and Boston for hub-based roles, though this posting is explicitly open to remote work.
Required qualifications include 8–10 years of communications, media relations, or PR leadership experience, ideally in tech, public policy, or high-growth environments. You must have a proven track record managing crisis communications, high-stakes public safety or policy narratives, and top-tier national media relationships. Strong executive presence and experience media training C-suite leaders is essential. Nice-to-have skills include policy communications experience and familiarity with public sector, law enforcement, or civic technology landscapes.
