Apartment List is seeking a Director of Lifecycle Marketing to own and transform how the platform engages millions of renters. This is a high-leverage growth role on the consumer side of the marketplace, where lifecycle marketing drives revenue directly and acquires renters at a fraction of paid acquisition cost.
You will set the vision for lifecycle strategy, taking full ownership of redesigning the end-to-end lifecycle program across the entire renter journey. The core work involves modernizing email, push, and SMS programs from high-volume sends to segmented, personalized, and forecast-driven campaigns. You'll integrate data science and machine learning capabilities to drive relevance, and build a lifecycle partnerships program from scratch—a true zero-to-one build. You'll also establish the foundation that supports a multi-brand portfolio, enabling new brand launches and cross-sell opportunities between brands.
As a player-coach, you'll lead a small team while staying hands-on in the platform and data. You'll set strategy across all channels, own revenue and volume forecasts, and drive the shift toward intelligent segmentation and personalization. You'll partner closely with marketing analytics, MarTech, engineering, and data science teams to assess program performance, identify growth levers, and rapidly test solutions. You'll build and troubleshoot journeys, templates, and audience logic directly; self-serve in SQL for analysis; and investigate anomalies to root cause. You'll manage a team of two, develop high-performing marketers, and represent lifecycle to senior leadership, translating program complexity into clear priorities and tradeoffs.
Required: 9+ years in lifecycle, engagement, or email marketing with expert command of an enterprise automation platform (Iterable, Braze, or similar). Deep B2C experience is essential—this role owns the renter side of the marketplace. You must be a builder who has stood up programs from scratch or transformed existing ones, not just optimized them. You need to be analytically self-sufficient, writing SQL for your own analyses, and technically fluent in data feeds, events, APIs, HTML, and CSS for email. You should be investigative by nature, chasing data anomalies to root cause. People leadership experience managing and developing marketers is required.
Preferred: marketplace experience, familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow), experience at high-volume consumer tech companies, and knowledge of email/SMS compliance.
