Vir Biotechnology, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a Director, HR Business Partner to serve as a strategic, hands-on people advisor for assigned business functions. This role bridges HR leadership and operational teams, translating business priorities into talent and organizational actions.
Key responsibilities include:
**HR Business Partnership**: Own HRBP partnership and people plan execution for assigned client groups. Serve as primary advisor to functional leaders and managers on people strategy, leadership practices, team effectiveness, performance management, and employee experience. Coach leaders on communication, feedback, performance expectations, and values-aligned decision-making. Partner with HR centers of excellence to deliver integrated solutions and build trusted relationships across the organization.
**Organizational Effectiveness & Workforce Planning**: Support organizational effectiveness and workforce planning efforts, translating business priorities into talent and capability actions. Apply biotech/pharma experience to advise on workforce planning, team structure, role design, and organizational scaling. Partner on organizational design decisions including role clarity, team structure, resource needs, and hiring sequencing. Assess workforce implications and capability gaps, using leader input, workforce data, and market benchmarks to identify trends and opportunities.
**Talent Management & Employee Experience**: Support core talent processes including performance management, talent reviews, succession planning, development planning, and retention strategies. Coach managers on talent development, career growth, and performance conversations. Partner with leaders and Talent Acquisition on role scoping and hiring sequencing. Promote consistent, inclusive talent practices that support collaboration and engagement. Surface employee experience themes and partner on actions to strengthen team effectiveness.
**Change Management & Employee Relations**: Support leaders through organizational changes, leadership transitions, and evolving priorities with clear communication and change tools. Advise managers on employee relations matters, performance concerns, and sensitive situations, escalating appropriately.
The role is based in San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of at least 3 days per week in office. This is an ideal fit for someone with clinical-stage biotech or pharmaceutical HR experience seeking to make a direct impact on organizational effectiveness and people strategy.
