Flywire is seeking an experienced Director of Fraud Risk to architect and lead a proactive, global fraud prevention strategy across their payments ecosystem. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fraud risk framework that addresses diverse attack vectors across Flywire's core verticals: Education, Healthcare, Travel, and B2B.
Key responsibilities include owning the end-to-end fraud risk strategy, overseeing fraud assessment processes for new and existing accounts (focusing on merchant fraud, Account Takeover, and social engineering), and partnering with Analytics and Engineering teams to build real-time fraud decisioning systems and automated rulesets leveraging Flywire's unique global payment data.
You will architect a robust fraud monitoring and response program, leading incident response during high-stakes fraud events and orchestrating rapid remediation and loss recovery. The role requires guiding Flywire's expansion into new geographies by assessing localized fraud patterns, regional payment method risks, and emerging regulatory requirements.
Cross-functional leadership is central to this position—you'll act as a key advisor to Product and Engineering teams, embedding fraud prevention into the user journey through tools like 3DS, biometrics, and behavioral analytics while maintaining a frictionless customer experience.
The ideal candidate brings 12+ years of fraud risk experience specifically in Payments or Fintech, with deep understanding of global money movement mechanics. You are a strategic thinker who views fraud prevention as a competitive advantage rather than a cost center. Strong analytical capabilities are essential—you should be comfortable with data, feature engineering, and model performance metrics (Precision/Recall). Exceptional communication skills are required to translate technical fraud trends into clear, actionable risk narratives for executives and the board. You are a thoughtful people leader who develops team members and remains calm under pressure when making high-stakes decisions during active attacks.
