Anduril Industries is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer to lead the Tactical Recon & Strike division, which develops advanced small unmanned aerial systems (Group 1-3) including products like Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, and Altius. This is a pivotal technical leadership role requiring deep expertise across electrical engineering, controls, software, mechanical engineering, and drone systems. You will drive technical direction and ensure robust product design across the full lifecycle—from initial concept and design through fabrication, testing, and production delivery. Key responsibilities include leading technical execution, developing systems optimized for expeditionary operations and warfighter usability, setting up engineering trades with technical SMEs and business development teams, and architecting system-level solutions that balance software and hardware considerations. You will define product milestones, lead technical design reviews, guide cross-functional decisions, and manage engineering risk. The role involves coordinating prototype and low-rate production fabrication, overseeing subsystem and system-level testing, and supporting remote troubleshooting of deployed systems. You'll conduct hands-on in-field testing, create and execute verification and validation plans, and work with senior leadership on resource planning. Required qualifications include senior-level experience leading system design from concept through customer delivery, understanding of aerodynamics, IMUs, control actuation servos, and their system performance implications. You need a technical bachelor's degree (Robotics, Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or equivalent) plus hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, early-stage customer deployment, and complex robotic systems. Familiarity with mechatronic design, firmware/software architecture, sensor physics, tracking and calibration, and data-driven decision-making is essential. You must be able to lead cross-functional teams through design trades while meeting deadlines, demonstrate high ownership and mission orientation, and be willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance. Travel as required for testing. Real-world operational experience with small UAS in military contexts is desired.
