Anduril Industries is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer to lead technical execution for the Tactical Recon & Strike division, working on advanced small drone systems including Altius, Anvil, Bolt, and Ghost. This is a pivotal role requiring a tenacious problem-solver with cross-functional expertise spanning electrical engineering, controls engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, and small UAS systems development.
You will drive technical direction and ensure robust product design across the full lifecycle—from initial concept and design through fabrication, testing, and production delivery. Key responsibilities include leading system-level architecture decisions that balance software and hardware considerations, defining product milestones, conducting technical design reviews, and guiding cross-functional teams through design trades while meeting program deadlines. You will coordinate prototype and low-rate production fabrication, manage subsystem and system-level testing, and create comprehensive verification and validation plans.
The role demands hands-on involvement: you'll conduct in-field testing, support remote troubleshooting of deployed systems, and work closely with technical subject matter experts and business development teams to identify solutions for current and future capability gaps. You will also coordinate with senior leadership on resource planning and ensure engineering risk is actively managed.
Required qualifications include a technical bachelor's degree (Robotics, Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or equivalent), senior-level experience leading system design from concept through customer delivery, and deep familiarity with aerodynamics, IMUs, control actuation servos, mechatronic design, firmware/software architecture, and sensor physics. You must demonstrate hands-on prototyping experience with complex robotic systems, data analysis capabilities, and the ability to engage technically across mechanical, electrical, firmware, sensors, and robotics software disciplines. Real-world operational experience with small UAS in military contexts is desired. Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance and willing to travel as required.
