Sparta is a next-generation commodity trading platform that raised $42M in Series B funding (February 2025). The company provides trading desks with clarity, control, and collaboration tools to trade smarter and faster.
You will lead sales for Sparta's Data Marketplace (DMP), a rapidly growing data business distinct from the core SaaS platform. DMP delivers Sparta's proprietary pricing and curve data, as well as third-party data via API, in partnership with platforms like Snowflake and Databricks.
As Data Sales Director, you will own the global DMP revenue target and work across regional sales teams in Europe, the US, Middle East, and Asia. Your responsibilities include:
• Building and managing a pipeline of prospects across quant desks, hedge funds, physical trading teams, and analytics groups who need direct data feeds.
• Identifying data upsell opportunities within existing Sparta customer accounts by partnering with regional Account Directors.
• Pitching DMP to new logos alongside regional Account Executives.
• Articulating the commercial case for Sparta's proprietary and third-party data (physical and financial curves, broker data, PRA and exchange data) across crude, refined products, freight, LPG, and bunker fuel.
• Structuring and pricing data packages and subscriptions tailored to customer use cases, from historical data for market analytics to live feeds for automated trading models.
• Staying current on the DMP product catalogue, roadmap, and new distribution channels (API, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Representing Sparta at industry and data-focused events to build relationships with data buyers and provider partners.
• Maintaining accurate pipeline and forecasting in HubSpot using MEDDPICC methodology.
• Feeding customer and market insights back to the product team to shape DMP roadmap and packaging.
You bring 7+ years of B2B sales experience selling data, market data feeds, or financial/information products. You have a proven track record selling directly to quant desks, hedge funds, or data and analytics teams at trading houses. You are comfortable engaging both technical buyers (data and quant teams) and commercial decision-makers. You understand data licensing and distribution commercial models (APIs, data feeds, subscriptions), have strong negotiation and deal-structuring skills, and can translate technical data capability into clear commercial value.
You are based in London or Geneva, working in the office 3-4 days per week, and willing to travel internationally for customer meetings and industry events. Nice-to-haves include experience selling commodities, energy, or market data; familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar data marketplaces; and experience with HubSpot and Claude.
