Render is hiring the first members of its Scaled Programs Customer Engineering team to support high-growth accounts through programmatic, one-to-many engagement rather than traditional one-to-one support. You'll operate the technical side of Render's scaled, digital-first customer motion, focusing on startup program cohorts and accounts without dedicated technical coverage.
In this role, you'll partner closely with Scaled Account Managers and the Field Engineering organization to execute two primary functions: running scaled programs (in-app engagement, targeted outreach based on expansion and churn signals, webinars, Slack community touchpoints) and building tools and content that empower the broader Field Engineering team (health triggers, growth/expansion opportunities from product usage, pricing and sizing calculators, POC templates, and enablement content).
Key responsibilities include translating expansion and churn signals (bandwidth, egress, usage patterns) into actionable plays for AMs and customers; operating startup program onboarding through Intercom checklists and guided flows; partnering with Support Engineering to identify recurring mistakes and best practices, then scaling those insights into programs and content; building and improving scaled-engagement toolkit components like in-app programs, outbound triggers, and pricing calculators (e.g., Heroku and AWS RDS migrations); running scaled customer programs including webinars and pattern-based outreach; translating recurring customer questions into timely in-product guidance and self-service content; and maintaining data hygiene on activity tracking and feature requests.
You'll need 3+ years in a customer-facing technical role (customer engineering, solutions engineering, technical support, or developer relations). Strong fundamentals in cloud infrastructure are essential: containers, deploys, autoscaling, networking, and CI/CD. You should have working knowledge of Postgres and common database migration patterns. AI fluency is important—you use AI tools daily and can advise customers building AI-native and LLM-powered applications. You're comfortable operating a high-volume, one-to-many motion, independently executing clearly scoped programs and building systems and content. Strong written communication is critical, as you'll be a primary producer of docs, playbooks, and in-app content. You're data-driven, able to prioritize work against team goals, and comfortable asking for context when ambiguity could affect outcomes.
Nice-to-haves include experience with Intercom or similar in-app engagement platforms, building internal or customer-facing tools that scale team impact, PLG or high-volume account environments, and prior Heroku or cloud migration experience.
