As a Customer Engineer, you own the pre-sales technical journey from discovery and technical fit assessment through competitive positioning, demo, and proof of concept (POC). Key responsibilities include: - Lead technical discovery to establish prospect business challenges, technical environment, and qualification before POC commitment - Design and deliver tailored, research-backed demos connecting Mixpanel capabilities to specific business outcomes - Establish technical fit by confirming the prospect's stack is a match and scoping meaningful proof requirements - Own competitive technical positioning as the definitive answer for why Mixpanel over Amplitude, PostHog, and warehouse-native alternatives - Run tightly structured POCs with defined success criteria, named focus metrics, and handoff packages for Delivery Engineers - Return post-sale for cross-sell and strategic expansion requiring new technical evaluation - Partner with Account Executives on deal strategy, technical objection handling, and expansion planning - Stay close to Delivery Engineers to understand production realities and ensure POCs reflect what actually works in production You should have 3–5+ years in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or technical pre-sales at B2B SaaS companies. Technical foundation in data analytics, event tracking, APIs, data warehouses, or adjacent domains is required. You demonstrate commercial instinct, understand deal-winning dynamics, and can run structured POCs with measurable outcomes. You communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, have competitive knowledge of the analytics landscape, and embody humility, hunger, intelligence, and accountability.
