Benchling is an AI platform for biotech R&D used by over 200,000 scientists globally, including major biopharma companies like Sanofi and Moderna. The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor to day-to-day accounting operations and the month-end close process, with opportunities to lead continuous improvement initiatives across the accounting team.
Key responsibilities include preparing and posting journal entries related to personnel costs (commissions, bonuses, stock-based compensation, employee benefits), conducting GL account and financial statement analyses, preparing rollforward and reconciliation schedules for balance sheet and expense accounts, and assisting in financial statement preparation with footnote disclosures. The role involves designing and improving the closing task list and close calendar, developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, collaborating on systems and process improvements, and participating in financial audits and ad hoc finance projects.
The ideal candidate has a BS/BA in Accounting or equivalent with strong GAAP knowledge and a minimum of 3+ years in public accounting or direct accounting roles. SaaS experience and NetSuite proficiency are strongly preferred. The role requires proficiency in MS Office Suite with intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, IF functions, pivot tables), excellent attention to detail, strong time management and organizational abilities, and clear communication skills. AI fluency is preferred—comfort using tools like Gemini or Claude to improve productivity, draft communications, analyze data, and streamline workflows is valued.
