Salary: USD 230,000 - 270,000 / annual
Cape is America's privacy-first mobile carrier, founded in 2022 with a mission to provide secure, private wireless connectivity to consumers, businesses, and government agencies. The company recently closed its Series C in March 2026 and is scaling rapidly.
You will serve as Controller, reporting to the Head of Internal Operations. This is a hands-on role that blends strategic process design with day-to-day accounting operations and team building. You will be responsible for building robust accounting processes that maintain high business velocity while meeting GAAP standards, implementing an ERP system in partnership with key stakeholders, and leading the quote-to-cash process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement accounting best practices and processes to support Cape's growth stage
- Lead implementation of an ERP system and manage the quote-to-cash workflow
- Prepare Cape for and lead its first PCAOB audit, ensuring audit-ready books and financial statements
- Own all financial operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, tax, and state compliance
- Build and develop an accounting team to support Cape's next phase of growth
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial close
You will work in a flat, collaborative organization with world-class engineers and architects, operating on a foundation of high trust and high expectations. The role requires someone who is both an accounting expert and a builder—comfortable with strategy, ownership, problem-solving, and execution simultaneously.
REQUIREMENTS:
- CPA certification and understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years at a Big 4 firm
- Operational accounting experience within a fast-paced, high-growth startup
- Proficiency creating and editing journal entries in QuickBooks Online and implementing departmental accounting practices across systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead an audit end-to-end
- Self-starter with a proven track record of identifying and implementing process improvements
- Strong collaboration skills across business partners, customers, and vendors
- Meticulous organizational skills with experience managing large projects and recurring processes
- Bonus: NetSuite experience
