OpenAI's Communications team is seeking an experienced PR professional to join their Consumer Lifestyle Communications group. This role focuses on developing and executing sustained campaigns that help mainstream audiences understand and experience OpenAI's consumer products, particularly ChatGPT.
You will partner closely with the Consumer Lifestyle Communications Lead to craft compelling narratives that translate complex AI concepts into relatable stories for everyday users. Key responsibilities include leading proactive user and seasonal storytelling campaigns, managing relationships with consumer and lifestyle media, handling inbound press inquiries, and identifying emerging cultural trends to create timely, high-impact communications opportunities.
The role requires close collaboration across marketing, product, community, and global communications teams to deliver integrated campaigns that showcase ChatGPT's distinctive benefits and real-world impact. You'll be responsible for spotting compelling user stories, translating technical topics into clear language for mainstream audiences, and moving quickly to capitalize on cultural moments.
Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of PR and media relations experience, preferably with a consumer technology background and in-house company experience. You should have familiarity with AI technologies or genuine interest in the field, exceptional ability to communicate complex information clearly, and a proven track record of building trusted relationships with press, executives, and cross-functional partners. Strong cultural instincts, trend-spotting ability, sound judgment under pressure, and experience managing PR agency partners are valued.
The position is based in San Francisco or New York with a hybrid work model (3 days in office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance for new employees.
