Affirm is seeking a Compliance Manager to own end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program. In this role, you will make independent, risk-based compliance decisions across card marketing, onboarding, disputes, wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and servicing. You'll partner directly with Product, Engineering, and Operations throughout the development lifecycle to ship card features that are compliant and built to last.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own compliance advisory for the entire Affirm Card program, including marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallets, disputes, and servicing
- Apply sound judgment under EFTA (Reg E), TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act, and UDAAP to navigate novel regulatory questions
- Review and approve Card marketing, disclosures, and UX for regulatory compliance and consumer protection standards
- Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for Card compliance issues, prioritizing durable fixes over one-off patches
- Partner with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk to prepare for and support regulatory exams and bank partner audits
- Maintain and contribute to the Card program's compliance risk assessment and control inventory
- Develop and maintain compliance training and reference materials specific to Card regulatory requirements
- Serve as the go-to compliance expert on new and evolving Card features, surfacing risk early in the product lifecycle
This role requires comfort with ambiguity and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment where much of what Affirm builds on Card is genuinely new and without precedent. You'll take on that ambiguity rather than wait for a playbook, making sound decisions with incomplete information and escalating only when truly warranted.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of experience in a compliance advisory role within financial services with a Bachelor's degree (6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent)
- Meaningful experience on card and payments programs
- Deep working knowledge of EFTA (Reg E) and TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act as applied to card products
- Familiarity with TISA (Reg DD) and UDAAP
- Hands-on experience with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard) is a plus
- Compliance certifications are a plus
- Demonstrated track record of operating independently in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, making sound risk-based decisions with incomplete information
- Experience owning issues from root-cause analysis through sustainable remediation
- Experience advising and building credibility with Product, Engineering, and Operations stakeholders on card, lending, or payments programs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-directed with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Inquisitive and proactive in identifying problems and proposing practical, business-aware solutions
