OpenRouter is building the open AI routing and infrastructure layer that enterprises use to access, manage, and optimize large language models across providers without lock-in or unnecessary cost. The company powers advanced AI teams by providing flexibility to move fast, scale confidently, and stay future-proof as models evolve.
As Community Lead, you will be the heartbeat of OpenRouter's developer community, owning and scaling their thriving Discord (50,000+ members) and extending presence across Twitter/X, Reddit, and other channels. This is a hands-on, founding-stage community role where you'll be the primary steward for the first three months, with the opportunity to shape how the function scales over time.
Key responsibilities include: stewarding Discord end-to-end with events, giveaways, and challenges; designing and scaling contributor recognition and moderator programs; recruiting and supporting a mod team; actively listening to community sentiment and reporting insights back to the company; building automations that surface community trends at scale; partnering on in-person events and creating playbooks for community-led events in different locales; extending community energy to social platforms; and owning the feedback loop from community to product.
You'll work closely with DevRel and marketing teams as a complementary, community-focused counterpart. The role is digital-first (80/20 online vs. in-person initially), with a focus on presence, trust, and making OpenRouter the best place on the internet to be an AI builder. Success means building 1:n systems and programs that scale without you—creating event kits instead of hosting individual meetups, building automations instead of answering questions manually, and recruiting mod teams instead of personally moderating every channel.
Within six months, you'll have established OpenRouter's Discord as one of the best AI builder communities with regular events and challenges, a healthy active moderator team with clear roles and recognition, structured contributor recognition programs, reliable automation-supported community sentiment tracking, and visible product impact from community feedback.
