Reality Defender builds foundation models for AI-generated media detection, helping enterprises and governments identify deepfakes across audio, video, and imagery in real time. The company's patented multi-model approach powers applications including contact center AI detection, vishing fraud, identity verification, claims fraud prevention, hiring integrity, media verification, and defense against disinformation. Backed by top-tier investors including DCVC, Y Combinator, Booz Allen, IBM, KPMG, and Accenture, Reality Defender works with leading enterprises, financial institutions, and governments.
As Communications Manager, you'll lead day-to-day public relations work, serving as the engine behind the company's media presence. You'll build and run the press outreach calendar, write pitches and press materials, and manage journalist relationships that shape how the market understands the deepfake threat. You'll partner with Marketing and leadership on executive visibility, internal announcements, and company news, keeping spokespeople briefed and ready to respond when reporters call—including during unplanned news cycles.
Key responsibilities include owning media relations (pitching stories, fielding inquiries, building journalist target lists), writing press releases and media pitches, building relationships with journalists and editors, securing interviews and speaking opportunities, monitoring the news cycle and responding quickly to reporter questions, tracking media coverage and placements, submitting for awards and speaking engagements, partnering with Marketing and Product teams, monitoring competitor coverage, maintaining press kits and media databases, supporting issues management, and assisting with internal communications.
You'll need 3+ years in public relations, communications, or media relations (ideally in tech or cybersecurity, agency or in-house). You should have existing journalist relationships or a proven track record of building them, strong writing skills that translate technical detail into compelling pitches, organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines, composure under pressure, curiosity about technical details, and collaborative instincts across teams. This is a hands-on role with room to grow into a more senior position as the communications team scales.
