Coinbase is seeking a Communications Generalist to join its Communications team, driving proactive and reactive communications across owned and earned channels to protect and grow the company's reputation in the crypto and fintech space.
You will own end-to-end communications planning for product launches and company announcements, managing the full lifecycle from messaging development through media outreach and post-launch measurement. You'll drive media relations by responding to inbound inquiries, pitching stories, staffing interviews, and building relationships with reporters across both crypto-native and mainstream press outlets.
Key responsibilities include developing content across multiple channels—messaging frameworks, blog posts, social copy, and web materials—all aligned with Coinbase's brand voice and communications strategy. You'll prepare spokespeople for media appearances by crafting comprehensive briefing documents with key messages, anticipated questions, and strategic guidance. Additionally, you'll lead rapid-response communications for crisis and issues management, partnering closely with Legal, Policy, and executive leadership to deliver clear, timely narratives under pressure in a fast-moving environment.
This role requires 7+ years of communications experience at a PR agency or in-house team, with at least 2 years in the crypto or fintech ecosystem. You'll need a proven track record in media relations, including established relationships with crypto press and demonstrated success placing proactive stories and managing reactive cycles. Exceptional writing and editing skills are essential, with a portfolio demonstrating your ability to translate complex crypto and technology topics for mainstream audiences. Direct experience supporting executive communications programs—including spokesperson preparation, media briefings, and message development for senior leaders—is required. The role also values responsible use of generative AI to maintain human oversight while driving measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
