The Exploration Company is developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle designed for cargo transport and eventual human missions, with in-orbit refueling capabilities. The company is building proprietary propulsion systems to ensure mission-critical efficiency and reliability. We seek a Combustion Engineer to join the Future Project division, contributing to the design, analysis, and optimization of combustion devices for cryogenic rocket engines. This is a hands-on technical role combining theoretical work, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and experimental validation. Key responsibilities include: - Supporting global combustor fluidic system development through theory and CFD analysis - Driving injector design and optimization against combustor requirements using analytical and computational methods - Defining instrumentation strategies for hot-fire testing and interpreting post-test data with CFD correlation - Reducing and analyzing hot-fire test data to derive performance and combustion-stability metrics, maintaining associated data processing tools - Supporting design reviews with clear technical justification of analysis methods, assumptions, and margins Required qualifications: - Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline - 3+ years of relevant experience in combustion, propulsion, or reacting-flow engineering - Solid foundation in bi-liquid rocket combustion processes - Strong background in reacting-flow CFD (ANSYS, OpenFOAM, Converge) using RANS and/or LES - Strong scripting and data-analysis ability in Python or similar Desired experience includes exposure to liquid rocket injector CFD, combustion of cryogenic propellants, combustion instability, thermoacoustics, uncertainty quantification, and participation in hot-fire test campaigns. The ideal candidate demonstrates structured problem-solving, rigorous documentation, ability to work under technical uncertainty, clear communication, and comfort in cross-disciplinary teams.
