Modern Treasury is seeking a finance leader to drive the company's next phase of growth. This is a strategic C-level role reporting directly to the CEO with broad influence across the business.
You will partner closely with the CEO and management team on company strategy, organizational design, and resource allocation. Key responsibilities include:
**Strategic & Business Leadership:**
- Shape the company and operating model, including organizational structure, teams, roles, and responsibilities
- Partner with leadership on decisions that determine how Modern Treasury is built and where it focuses
- Help determine where to invest people and capital to create long-term company and shareholder value
- Bring an economic lens to product strategy, roadmap decisions, pricing, and packaging
- Guide the expected value of new products and capabilities, investment tradeoffs, and build/buy/partner decisions
**Payments & Commercial Economics:**
- Negotiate with financial partners and banks to drive the economics that make the payments business work
- Play a key role in building and scaling Modern Treasury's payments business
- Help shape business model, partner economics, and path to attractive long-term unit economics
**Capital Markets & Transactions:**
- Lead primary capital raises, debt facilities, M&A, and other strategic transactions
- Identify and consult on the best way to meet capital needs
**Board & Investor Relations:**
- Serve as a clear and credible partner to the Board and investors
- Communicate financial performance, outlook, and strategy clearly and credibly
- Help the board and investors understand near-term performance and long-term opportunity
**Finance Organization:**
- Build and scale the finance organization, including defining team structure and responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategy on how AI can make the finance function more effective
- Set the point of view on AI transformation across finance operations and capabilities

**Requirements:**
- Combination of strategic judgment, commercial instincts, and financial depth
- Proven track record as a company builder and driver (not a passenger)
- Experience navigating strategic transactions such as primary capital raises, debt financings, or M&A
- Strong communication and storytelling skills; ability to represent the business clearly and credibly with boards, investors, and external stakeholders
- Experience operating in a high-growth startup environment
- Experience in investment banking, private equity, or venture capital is a plus
- Fintech experience in the infrastructure or application layer is preferred
- Payments experience is a strong plus
Note: Depending on the candidate, this role could be structured as VP of Finance or Chief Financial Officer.
