Plug is an automotive fintech startup building a marketplace exclusively for electric vehicles. Founded in 2023 by former Tesla executives, the company has facilitated $100M in EV sales and raised a $20M Series A from Lightspeed Venture Partners. The platform enables consumers to get instant cash offers for used EVs with data-driven pricing and battery analysis, while dealers bid in real time on inventory sourced directly from consumers and commercial partners.
As Business Operations Manager, you will be a force multiplier for the Director of Business Operations, owning cross-functional projects end-to-end and driving operational improvements across the organization. You will partner directly with functional leaders in Sales, Dealer Success, and Operations to diagnose inefficiencies and implement data-driven solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading cross-functional initiatives from scoping through execution, driving accountability across teams you don't formally manage
- Taking ambiguous problems (e.g., "this handoff keeps breaking," "onboarding is too slow") and diagnosing root causes to propose fixes
- Partnering with functional leaders to analyze data, size problems, and design solutions including agentic workflows, automations, and standard operating procedures
- Leading and facilitating department operations such as weekly business reviews
- Acting on diagnosed daily metric alerts to maintain operational health
You will have real ownership, high autonomy, and a direct line to company outcomes. The role is based in Sawtelle (between Santa Monica and West Los Angeles) and is fully in-person.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4–7 years of experience in business operations, strategy & operations, consulting, or high-growth startup operations roles (marketplace or automotive experience a plus)
- Track record of owning ambiguous problems end-to-end
- Strong stakeholder management skills; ability to build credibility quickly and drive change without formal authority
- Comfortable with data and analytics; SQL experience a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication; structured thinking to bring clarity to complex situations
- Bias toward action, low ego, thrives in zero-to-one ambiguity
