OpenAI is seeking a senior communications leader to shape how the company communicates about cybersecurity globally. This is a strategic and hands-on role reporting to the Head of Communications, Business, based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days/week in office). You will define and lead OpenAI's cybersecurity communications strategy, from global narrative development through product launches, research disclosures, threat reporting, and sustained storytelling. The role requires building a clear, differentiated story about how OpenAI strengthens cyber defense while developing and deploying advanced capabilities responsibly. Key responsibilities include: - Developing communications strategy for cybersecurity products, model capabilities, research, partnerships, policy initiatives, and company milestones - Leading communications for major launches and fast-moving security issues - Partnering with Product, Research, Security, Safety, Global Affairs, Go-to-Market, Legal, and Marketing teams to deliver coordinated communications across earned, owned, executive, and social channels - Building trusted relationships with leading cybersecurity, technology, national-security, policy, and business press - Advising senior leadership on positioning, messaging, launch strategy, and reputation management - Translating complex technical, security, and policy decisions into clear, credible communications Required qualifications: - 12+ years of communications experience with deep expertise in cybersecurity, security technology, threat intelligence, national security, or related technical fields - Strong press instincts and track record of shaping narratives and landing meaningful coverage with cybersecurity, technology, policy, or business media - Technical fluency to work credibly with security researchers, engineers, threat analysts, product leaders, and technical journalists - Experience communicating consequential products, research, threat findings, vulnerabilities, incidents, or policy issues in high-scrutiny environments - Exceptional judgment about accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, and communication precision - Ability to advise senior executives through high-visibility moments with calm and clarity - Skill moving fluidly between strategy setting and execution while aligning diverse stakeholders
