Salary: GBP 55,000 - 75,000 / annual
Lodestar Space is developing autonomous defense systems for high-value space assets in orbit. Their flagship product, MITHRIL, is an AI-enabled autonomy software suite that enables spacecraft to autonomously detect, characterize, and neutralize orbital threats.
As an Avionics FPGA Engineer, you will design, develop, and verify RTL in SystemVerilog and/or Verilog for FPGA and SoC targets used in next-generation autonomous space systems. You'll work across the full lifecycle from concept and simulation through hardware testing and on-orbit readiness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and verify RTL for FPGA and SoC platforms
- Bring up and integrate high-speed SerDes and memory interfaces
- Develop testbenches and formal proofs for module and system-level correctness
- Conduct hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab instrumentation
- Collaborate with systems, avionics software, and hardware teams on seamless RTL integration
- Support design documentation, test plans, design reviews, and environmental qualification testing (EMC, vibration, thermal vacuum)
Required qualifications include a BEng/MEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, proficiency in SystemVerilog/Verilog, hands-on FPGA experience, familiarity with digital interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART), simulation and formal verification experience, understanding of clock domain crossings and timing analysis, scripting skills (Python/TCL), and lab test equipment experience.
Preferred experience includes high-speed interfaces (MIPI-CSI, QSGMII, PCIe), memory interfaces (DDR3/4, LPDDR4), SoC design with RISC-V/Arm processors, PCB design for high-speed digital, advanced verification methodologies, Microchip FPGA experience, space-rated electronics background, and Time-Sensitive Networking knowledge.
