Wealthsimple, Canada's leading financial innovator serving 4+ million customers with $155B+ in assets under administration, is seeking an Associate in AML Analytics to join its Anti-Money Laundering team. The AML team detects and responds to money-laundering and terrorist-financing risks, working alongside compliance and operational experts to strengthen Wealthsimple's AML program and combat financial crime.
In this role, you will solve data problems in a fast-paced environment focused on shipping and iterating on new features. You'll deliver data-backed decisions about AML detection strategy, collaborating with product, technology, and compliance teams to create significant business impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and improving detection models to identify unusual transaction patterns and suspicious activities while minimizing false positives
- Extracting, transforming, and analyzing large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies related to financial crime
- Refining risk-scoring models to quantify AML risk associated with clients
- Developing dashboards to provide insights that enhance program effectiveness
- Sharing AML trends and performance metrics with AML leadership
Required qualifications:
- Strong data skills with applied experience in a risk function like AML or fraud
- Proficiency with SQL for quantitative analysis and synthesizing results into actionable proposals
- Experience using AI tools to work faster, with judgment to validate their output
- Ability to develop and communicate stories to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Capacity to internalize and weigh information to reach balanced decisions
- Intellectual curiosity and passion for the work
Preferred qualifications include experience in AML or compliance functions, data visualization tools (Preset, Superset, Tableau, Looker, PowerBI), and databases (Snowflake, Redshift, MySQL).
